Individual Counselling
Jane's work draws on attachment, narrative, and systems theories as well as the unique
body-informed, developmental models of Bodynamic and Moaiku psychotherapies.
In this approach, counselling is about...
- Increasing choices and ways of being in our lives, improving connection, and exploring areas of trauma or difficult places within ourselves in safe, supported, intentional, and measured ways.
- Expanding existing inner resources and actively creating more capacity, so that day to day functioning is improved and the counselling work feels manageable. This means building strengths while also addressing problems.
- Working with early, formative experiences and stages when needed, in a way that focuses on how they inform current patterns, thereby bringing them into conscious awareness and making new pathways possible.
- Offering resources and skills while also respecting the needs and wishes of the client(s); listening, exploring, finding understanding, and seeing the client and counsellor as partners in the counselling process.
Relationship Counselling
An initial "getting to know" session with the couple is followed by one session with each person individually. From there, goals and areas of focus are identified for the couple work going forward.
- The therapist acts a coach as the couple focuses on each other and how things can work better for them.
- Work may include skill building around communication, listening, increasing understanding, coming to compromise, managing triggers and reactions, moving from gridlock to dialogue, repairing emotional hurts, enhancing intimacy and connection, and building shared dreams and life goals.
- A non-judgemental counselling setting is offered that promotes emotional safety and respect.
- Often this work involves learning about individual and relationship patterns. Both parties need to be willing to engage in the relationship work and open to exploring their own part in the relationship dynamic.
Online Counselling
In addition to person-to-person counselling an online option is available using a secure platform that offers an encrypted peer to peer connection which is PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection & Electronic Document Act) compliant.
The selected platform is easy to use and does not involve apps or downloads.
Prior to an appointment a client is sent a link via email. They are then directed to an online "waiting room".
A computer is required with a camera/microphone, web browser, and good internet connection as well as a quiet, private space with few interruptions.
